IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE CHANGE IN PARKING AND MEETING LOCATION FOR THE
SHADY"S POND WALK THIS SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 24th. 


Sunday, September 24th 1-3 PM - Waltham Land Trust Shady's Pond Conservation
Area Walk.  Join us to explore the City's newest open space acquisition,
land formerly owned by Our Lady's Parish on Trapelo Road.  Shady's Pond
Conservation Area contains mature woods with a fern-covered floor, pine and
oak covered ridges, a pond and cattail marsh, and a cascading stream that
runs into Chester Brook Park.  

NEW MEETING LOCATION - Meet at the Abbot St dead end.  Abbott St is off of
Trapelo Rd, between Gilman Rd and Sherman Ln.  Follow Abbott to the end.
Plenty of on-street parking on Gilman and Warwick Streets.

Thursday, September 21st, 2006, 4 PM - "From Town Center to Country Retreat:
A Walking Tour of Paine & Lyman Estates" - Landscape preservationist Mary
Gregory will lead a walking tour of two historic estates, which combine 167
acres and preserve several centuries of history of Waltham and the evolution
of the American landscape.  Tour begins at the Lyman Estate (185 Lyman St)
and ends about 5:30 at Stonehurst, with light refreshments.  Wear
comfortable walking shoes.  The event is free and sponsored by the Friends
of Stonehurst, Historic New England and the City of Waltham.
