Sunday, May 20th, 10 AM - 2 PM. Five-Mile Walk on Western Greenway
The Western Greenway, which will connect green spaces in a 9-mile loop in
Belmont, Lexington and Waltham, is becoming a reality. WLT Board members
will describe the history of the properties and the efforts to create the
Greenway. The walk will focus on the completed northern section, which
includes the Mass Audubon Habitat and Rock Meadow areas in Belmont, and
Beaver Brook North (the old Metropolitan State Hospital properties in
Lexington and Waltham). Meet at 9:45am at Elsie Turner Field, opposite the
Federal Archives, just east of Forest Street; bring a lunch, day pack,
water, and bug spray. The walk will be leisurely but will be 5-6 miles.
Appropriate for interested teenagers, but not young children. Space is
limited; first-come first-serve. Register with Karen.
Sunday, June 3rd, 10 AM-12:00PM - Tree Walk at Storer Conservation Area.
Land Trust Board member and Waltham City Councilor George Darcy will
introduce participants to the variety of tree specimens on the Storer
Conservation Land. Rhododendrons should be in full bloom. The program will
be held at Stonehurst, the Robert Treat Paine Estate, 100 Robert Treat Paine
Drive, Waltham.
May and June, Dates To Be Announced - Stewardship Days at Shady's Pond
Conservation Area. Join the Land Trust in cleaning up the City's newest
open space parcel and beginning the process of marking and clearing a trail
at Shady's Pond. Please contact Karen for more information on dates, times
and meeting place.
Other events of interest in Waltham
Walk and Talk with Waltham Elected Officials: Weekly opportunity to walk and
talk with various elected officials in Waltham. Beginning Tuesday, May 15th
the walks will be on Tuesdays through June and begin on Monday evenings on
July 10th. Leary Track, Bacon St. 6-7:30 PM. Contact Nadene Stein at

Birds of Prospect Hill Park: Tuesday, May 8 at 7:00 pm
Location: Park and Recreation Building, 314 Totten Pond Road
Judy Marino, a Prospect Hill Park member and local birder, with Lynn Lord, a
Waltham Garden Club member, will present a program on the Birds of Prospect
Hill Park. They will present information on bird species, their habitats,
and how we can help birds through planting and maintenance choices in our
home landscapes.
Nature Walk: Birds of Prospect Hill Park: Saturday, May 12 at 8:00 am
Location: Meet at the Guard Rail outside the Park and Recreation Building,
314 Totten Pond Road, Waltham, MA
Judy Marino and Jason Forbes will lead us as we search for birds in the
park's varied habitats. It's peak migration time, so who knows what will be
passing through! On past walks we've seen red tailed hawks, indigo
buntings, flickers, palm warblers, pine warblers, kinglets, and many other
local and migrating birds. Bring binoculars if you have them, and join us!
